DESIGN for the APPLIED ARTS

This five-week session will primarily focus on basic design: how to process
ideas, create layout, form, composition, geometric balance, and color
relationships. This class is for anyone working in the applied arts such
as pottery, sculpture, quilting, and other surface designers. Students
will be expected to work independently on class projects between classes.

Many a good painting has been marred by inattentive drawing. This class
will concentrate on the drawing skills most useful to a painter.
Articulation of form, illusion of depth, gradation of values, and principles of
composition will be covered. Drawing's applicaiton to landscape, still
life, and portaiture will be explored.
FIGURE DRAWING

This class will focus on mastering the nuances and complexities of the body's
representation in art while working from a live model. Through the means
of individual and group instruction, students will develop and improve
composition, technique, and tonal development while concentrating on the human
form as a means of expression. Formal critiques will also be utilized to
reinforce and establish good drawing habits.
