Students are encouraged to work from first hand observation and/or experience using the medium of their choice. Learning to look, respond and record in a personalized way are goals that are within the reach of each student.
Throughout history, art students have learned through the process of
copying the
works of renowned artists. In this class, students will select, with
help from the
instructor, a work by a master artist and recreate it on canvas. In the
second half
of the class, students will paint a second painting of their own in the style
of their
chosen artist.

10:00 AM - 12 Noon

Students bring new paintings in any media to class for constructive group
criticism led
by the instructor. The goal is forward development through
a deepening discernment of
strengths, weaknesses, and direction in one’s
work.
A smaller amount of class time will be used to discuss current major exhibitions,
reviews, and topics in art to broaden students’ awareness of issues
and concerns
in contemporary art.
