  Ron Boehmer

Ron is a co-founder of BSSS and teaches drawing and painting classes and workshops, specializing in plein air painting. In addition to BSSS, he teaches painting workshops in Connecticut at the Wethersfield Academy in Hartford, and in Massachusetts at the Springfield Museum of Art. Since coming to Virginia, he has taught art history and studio courses for Central Virginia Community College, Lynchburg College, Hollins College, The Lynchburg Fine Arts Center, and the Virginia School of the Arts. Ron's work is widely exhibited and collected. He has been recipient of over 46 awards in painting and drawing in regional and national juried exhibitions, including more than 18 " Best in Show" awards. Ron holds an MFA degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a BFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art. Mary EcholsBY MARY T. ECHOLS Mary is a co-founder of BSSS and educates members in art history and appreciation classes. She is a professor emeritus of Mary Baldwin College where she was head of the art department 1975–1991. Before coming to Staunton, she taught and frequently exhibited in Italy, Chile, Peru, Brazil and Haiti. Her works have received numerous awards and are included in a number of private and public collections. She is a much-respected artist and teacher who is highly accomplished in both respects. Mary received a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Virginia, an MA from the University of Southern California, and a BA from George Washington University. Barbara teaches printmaking and collage classes and workshops for BSSS. She has taught for almost thirty years, including at Stuart Hall School for over thirteen years.
As an artist and craftsman of painting, drawing printmaking and collage, she often works with "found" materials. She has exhibited throughout the region.

Janly instructs several drawing, painting and enameling classes and workshops for BSSS. She has more than thirty years of teaching experience and her teaching style is one that anticipates a serious quest on the part of the student who wants to develop a sound foundation of knowledge. She exhibits regionally, nationally and internationally and has participated in several group and solo shows. Janly studied sculptural ceramics as an undergraduate before discovering vitreous enameling on copper as a medium. She now paints as readily as she works with other mediums. Jeffery Stockberger ArtBY JEFFERY STOCKBERGER Jeffery teaches several still life painting and figure drawing classes and workshops for BSSS. His work has been exhibited extensively regionally and his paintings have been featured in such notable publications as Southern Accents, The Washington Post, Traditional Homes, and D.C. House Magazine. Jeffery received a BFA from James Madison University's College of Art and Design with intensive study in large-scale figure paintings at the Corcoran School of Art and Design. Robert leads a painting critique class for BSSS. He has also taught at James Madison University and University of Virginia. He received the "Academy Award in Art" from American Academy of Arts & Letters in 2004.   Shay Clanton  
 

Shay teaches watercolor workshops for BSSS. She also instructs watercolor, drawing, oil painting and design classes at Mary Baldwin College. Her oil and watercolor landscapes are exhibited frequently throughout the Mid Atlantic in both group and solo shows, meriting numerous awards. She received her MFA in drawing and painting from James Madison University and her BA in studio art and art history from Mary Baldwin College. Anita Cooper
Anita has lead watercolor workshops for BSSS. She was among 10 finalists for the cover of American Artist Watercolor Magazine in 2010 and has illustrated a book of Bromeliads using watercolors. While volunteering at the National Institute of Biodiversity, she used pen and ink to create drawings for scientific papers. Anita earned a master's degree in art education at the University of Iowa and majored in fine art at Berea College.

Liz GeigerBY ELIZABETH GEIGER Liz teaches still life painting classes and workshops for BSSS. Cleveland leads various drawing classes and workshops at BSSS. After 25 years of working in the theatre, he returned to his first love—the visual arts. Since that transition, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Cleveland received a BA from Yale University where he studied drawing with Bernard Chaet and color theory with Richard Lytle, among other renowned instructors. Jan is a draftsman, painter and printmaker who has taught figure drawing and painting workshops for BSSS. While a member of the art department faculty at Mary Baldwin College, Jan received the Professional Grant in Painting from the Virginia Museum and completed three residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris France. She is also a fellow of the Santa Fe Art Institute and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her work is shown in galleries and museums throughout Europe and the United States, and is included in both private and public collections.   Richard Weaver  
  Rick teaches drawing classes and workshops for BSSS. Rick has taught at the Washington Studio School in Washington D.C. and the Art League in Alexandria, VA. Rick has shown his work in a number of venues nationally, including galleries in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York. He has received recognition for both his sculpture and painting. Rick earned an MFA from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and a BS from Vanderbilt University.
