Translate your ideas to your chosen medium and work from life or photo references. View pre-recorded demos (which you can keep) on how to use watercolor, gouache, soft pastels and oil painting in a direct method. Each live session will be recorded. We’ll use Padlet for group critiques, as well as individual critiques for those who wish to participate. I will have weekly PowerPoint presentations on contemporary and historical artists who approached simplification in their work. Instructor Janly Jaggard will offer one-on-one instruction to show you how to work from direct observation as you experience drawing processes that lead you forward towards the medium of your choice.
If you have some experience but know there is more to learn, Janly will help you continue to improve your technical skills as you begin to develop your personal style. This class is not just a two-step program but is the door that opens to lasting skill building, practice and aesthetic success. A materials list provided upon registration.

This class is designed to build on the skills learned in Session 1. In this session, we will continue to practice sighting and measuring while also starting to build a foundation in tone. We will primarily draw from the still life but students will also have the opportunity to choose their own subject matter (from photos) for the last two days of the course and they will receive individualized feedback on their drawings as they learn to develop a more confident sense of tone and texture.
