There are many well preserved and maintained gardens all over Japan that attract visitors throughout the seasons. Gardens are essential to Japanese artistic cultural heritage, and continue to fascinate not only Japanese but also people around the world. What makes them so distinctive? In this workshop, a brief history of Japanese gardens, their styles, the influence of Shinto, Buddhism, and Taoism on garden design, and cultural implications will be explored. We’ll make a virtual tour of famous gardens in Japan.

“Misa’s workshop is as engaging and informative for the arm-chair traveler as for anyone planning to visit Japan. For a few hours you are transported to Japan and have an insider’s view of the art and culture.”
